Thoughts on course preparation

Many topics in this module are linked to other topics. When working on this module, it is possible to cross-reference or delve into other contents.

If the available teaching time is limited, here are some ideas and suggestions for implementation:

  • The risks on the Internet can be dealt with via the target screen of exercise c3L01b - Risks on the Net (Overview) of the module Technology.
  • In the following, at least the following risks should be looked at in more detail:
    • Secure passwords
    • Permissions of apps and software
    • Viruses, Trojans and malware
    • Phishing
  • In particular, the exercise on phishing c2L03 - Recognising Phishing should be carried out.
  • The topics "Ownership of Data", "Personalised Advertising", Big Data" and "Algorithmic Systems" can be taught as a separate block.
    • Starting the discussion with exercise c2L01b - Ownership of data II
    • Then transition to the topic of data traces on the net (e.g. via exercise c2L06 - Tell-tale receipt).
    • Building on this, topics such as "personalised advertising", the effect of "echo chambers" in social media and the effects of algorithmic systems can be built on.
