About the topic "Protection Against Online Sexual Assault"

This is a difficult topic, and it is often hard for adults to deal with it. But the fact is that many children as young as elementary school age are exposed to sexually motivated assaults in chats, social media or video games. When adults leave children alone with digital media, these assaults often go unnoticed because the children either cannot classify the assaults or are afraid to talk about them. The most important lesson for your students must therefore be: do not leave children unsupervised on the Internet.

Prevention of these attacks in the digital world is closely linked to prevention of sexual assault in the offline world. Some prevention programs start as early as kindergarten, since attacks on children already occur at this age. Age-appropriate sexual education is just as much a part of prevention as educating children about risks, attack strategies and also about ways to ward off such attacks.
