Training Data Protection & Privacy

Thank you for supporting us in the great task of educating people about data protection and privacy! It is not an easy topic to teach, as the risks and threats are often not very transparent. We suggest you start with some of the examples of making data trails visible to open your students' eyes to the real extent of data use.

If protecting their own data is not important to them, adults should at least care about protecting the rights of children and young people and be aware of the potential risks and threats on the Internet. This is especially important to prevent abusive behavior such as cyberbullying, cybergrooming and sextortion (which will be discussed in detail in the next lesson). No one needs to become a security expert, it is enough to be informed about the basic rights and measures and to be careful not to make data unnecessarily available to others. Often it is simple measures, such as checking the privacy settings of newly installed apps, that already provide better protection for children's data.

We prepared two lessons with ideas on how to teach the topic in your class:

When you feel ready to teach the topic, proceed to the next step and test your knowledge.
